Geographical Location: Altındere National Park is located in the Eastern Black Sea Region, on the Eastern Black Sea Mountain Range, within the borders of Maçka District of Trabzon Province. Transportation: Access to the National Park area is provided by a 48 km highway from the center of Trabzon province to Maçka district. Special Features: The main feature of the National Park is the Sumela Monastery and the plant richness and geomorphological structure of the Altındere Valley. The Sumela Monastery, founded in the name of the Virgin Mary, was established on the western slope of Altındere at an altitude of 300 meters. The monastery, which was the starting point of the spread of Christianity in the region, holds an important place in the history of art with its chapel, church and other complexes. The National Park is also very rich in terms of flora and the dominant vegetation of the region is eastern spruce. A rich diversity of vegetation consisting of fir, yellow pine, chestnut, oak, linden, hornbeam, willow, black pine, rhododendron, Caucasian honeysuckle from leafy and coniferous trees is worth seeing.
